5 Underrated Destinations The Whole Family Will Love

Family holidays are often very typical and similar, with parents getting used to the same destination and therefore becoming unwilling to step out of their comfort zone. With that being said, there are countless underrated destinations across the globe that are perfectly suited to families—and here are just five of them.

Amalfi Coast, Italy

Italy is generally underrated when it comes to family holidays, and the Amalfi Coast even more so—beautiful scenery, a calm, tranquil sea and rustic architecture makes for one of the most gorgeous settings for a quiet family trip, especially if you’re pregnant as echoed by Holidaysafe.

Sure, beach holidays may not be a unique choice for a family getaway, but they do not get better than a trip to the Amalfi Coast. It’s the closest thing to paradise on earth, and with everything from historically significant buildings to turquoise waters to enjoy, nobody will get bored.

Tokyo Disneyland, Japan

Disneyland is a common choice for families looking for a magical, fun-filled trip—whether it be the Orlando or Paris resort. However, there’s a wildly underrated choice in Southeast Asia you should have your eye on.

Tokyo Disneyland shares the iconic familiarities as its peers, with landmarks such as Cinderella’s Castle and districts including Tomorrowland and Adventureland, but other areas have a distinctly Japanese flair, making for a very unique theme park. That’s not to mention the adjacent DisneySea park, which doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world.

And, of course, the resort’s proximity to the centre of Tokyo means you can escape into the big, bold city with ease.

Zell am See-Kaprun, Austria

Ever tried a skiing holiday? Zell am See-Kaprun is arguably one of the world’s best places for it—a massive range of slopes ranging from easy to expert, all situated in a beautiful Austrian mountain range makes for an idyllic getaway full of fun.

Overlooking a gorgeous, deep blue lake and snow-capped peaks for miles in the distance, the town of Zell am See is equally as charming as its surroundings. The locals are undeniably friendly, the food always delectable and the quiet, lulled vibe of the town juxtaposing the energy of the slopes that tower just a stone’s throw away. For a balance that appeals to the whole family, this could be an unexpectedly ideal choice.

Algarve, Portugal

Often favoured by stag and hen-dos, the Algarve remains one of Portugal’s most idyllic settings—if you go to the right areas, of course. Lagos and Vilamoura are two of the region’s most tranquil and beautiful settings for a sun-soaked beach getaway, but rest assured there’s plenty to do alongside kicking back and relaxing on the sand.

Albufeira is arguably the perfect harmony of quiet lulls and energetic highs, with areas such as the town centre being the hub of revellers and thrill-seekers alike, whilst the old town retains its traditional charm with long-standing restaurants, quirky boutiques and—yes—a gorgeous beach.

California, USA

Many disregard California as a potential holiday destination, but it’s inarguably one of the most beautiful, diverse and idyllic locations not only in North America, but the entire world. With a multitude of gorgeous beaches, bustling cities and iconic landmarks to discover, you’ll be surprised at how much California offers for the entire family.

Consider visiting Malibu, often talked and sang about by those who visit, with its remote beaches and lush landscapes making for one of the most idyllic escapes you could have. For something more fun-filled, Six Flags Magic Mountain is less than an hour away, and boasts some of the world’s biggest and best attractions.
